The Light of Miami

The Light of Miami is simply an excuse to meet-up and delve in conversation about unique experiences lived in the City of Miami through the voices of its main characters.

Writers, journalists, musicians, architects, designers, photographers and filmmakers gather together this Saturday September, 17 between 1:30 and 10:00 p.m. at Neushop, a place where the experience of the city we imagine is being designed.

01:30 p.m.
DJ David Rondón
Music producer, radio and tv host for over 15 years. David Rondón is a reference on the Electronic and Alternative Rock scene in Latin America. He has worked and interviewed important figures like Richie Hawtin, Soulwax, Justice, Yelle, Rory Phillips, among others, for HBO Latin America and E! Entertainment Latin America.

2:10 p.m.
Photographer Andrés Manner | The Light of Miami Projection.
He studied at the Art Institute of Boston and the ICP in NYC. He has held five solo exhibitions and participated in more than a dozen group exhibitions. He has published his pictures in HBO Latin America Group, El País (Spain), Playboy Brazil and Complot Magazine.

Illustrator Jefferson Quintana and Author Stan Jakubowicz | Conversation on Isra & Lito: a graphic novel about the Miami street artist Reefa.
Jefferson Quintana
Graphic Designer. Graduated with honors from Prodiseño. He has worked with institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas (MAC), ABV Design Workshop, Kid Cool, E! Online Latino, Pepsi and the European Philharmonic of Switzerland.
Stan Jakubowitz
14 years of experience developing and producing content for film and TV. He has worked for The Disney/Univision Joint Venture, MTV, Nickelodeon, Fremantlemedia among others. His first feature film, “La mujer de mi hermano” (Released by Twentieth Century Fox and Lionsagate) was a box office success in the US Hispanic market.

Architects Jorge L. Hernandez and Rocco Ceo | Conversation on Miami’s light and its impact on the practice of architecture
Jorge Hernández
Professor and practitioner of Architecture. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami and a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia, where he studied design and architectural history. Since 1987 he has been a professor at MiamiOh and has lectured across Europe and the US.
Rocco Ceo
Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies – School of Architecture. Rocco Ceo is a Professor of Architecture. He is also the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of the UM DesignBuild Program. His teaching areas include: Design, Design Research in the Studio Setting, Mechanical & Freehand Drawing, and Design/Build.

Journalist Daniel Shoer Roth | How to bring light into our environment and have a positive impact (minorities and change).
Journalist, columnist, influencer, biographer. He studied at New York University Daniel has worked at El Nuevo Herald since 1999. He also publishes a weekly column View From El Nuevo Herald in The Miami Herald. He describes himself as a “spokesman for minorities”.

Writer Pedro Medina León (Escritores Suburbanos) | Reading from Viaje One Way: Antología de narradores de Miami and conversation with contributing writers.
Notable peruvian writer, columnist, best-selling author and professor. “Streets of Miami”, “Mañana no te veré en Miami” and “Lado” are part of his narrative work. He edited “Viaje one way” (anthology of Miami’s narrators). He is also in charge of the publishing house and website Suburbano Ediciones.

Filmmaker Kenny Riches | Screening of The Strongest Man and conversation with the filmmaker via Skype from Los Angeles.
Filmmaker. Born in Tokyo, Japan. His feature film “The Strongest Man” is a Miami-centric comedy about an anxiety-ridden Cuban man, who fancies himself the strongest man in the world. He received important theatrical and digital distribution after the world premier at Sundance Film Festival.
