About O, Miami

O, Miami is a local organization dedicated to democratizing access to literature and re-thinking the role of the literary arts in American society. Their largest involvement is the annual poetry festival O, Miami, with the mission of making every single person in Miami-Dade County encounter a poem during the month of April. Since its founding in 2011, the festival has hosted performances by Anne Carson, Raúl Zurita, W.S. Merwin, Patti Smith, Richard Blanco, Tracy K. Smith, Thurston Moore, Kevin Young, and many others.

Beyond the festival, O, Miami produces The Sunroom, a residency program that places poets in schools, detention centers, and other communities where high-quality poetry instructions is not guaranteed; Jai-Alai Books, a regional imprint that seeks to create a literary publishing voice for Miami, as well as several other initiatives.
